03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Stars Like Dust, Turkey.

What do you do?
Actually I do all sort of musical things from synthwave to dream pop, but recently I focused on the mixture of neo-soul and psychedelia using lots of synthesizers.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Warm, evolving, visual.

What is the band doing at the moment?
Recently published a new EP called 'Moonlight Project' and there are some gigs up ahead.

How should your music be listened to?
Whilst stargazing or driving/walking/travelling at night.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Babylon in Istanbul is a great place to be.

What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Massive Attack and Portishead are the most inspirational artists to emerge from the UK for me without a doubt. If I remember correctly the first song I composed for Stars Like Dust roots in some improvised keys over a Portishead track.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I started making music in a punk rock band and I was in the punk rock scene for a while. This era taught me how to be a self-sufficient artist in every means - both in creative and technical senses. Since then I compose, record, perform and mix everything I made.

What music defines the teenage you?
Punk rock and ska.

You can make a record with anyone from history, who would it be and why?
I would really like to record with The Police. Copland-Summers-Sting trio on their 1978-1981 era can accomplish any task.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history, who would they be and why?
So I will be the opening act and then Justice will play - for their amazing mixture of dance and heavy metal culture and sound. Followed by Massive Attack - for their originality and pioneering.

Stars Like Dust creates a sound that combines the guitar of '80s new wave, electric instruments of synthwave and progressive structure of neo-psychedelia with influences from science fiction and horror movie soundtracks. He aims to produce songs true to the spirit of the genre but push its limits with different composition perspectives.

Debut album “Voyager 01” was recorded in both Seattle and Istanbul throughout 2018 and reflects the contrasting atmospheres of these cities. The opening song of the album "Fly High" featured in the last season of Comedy Central hit "Broad City".
