03Interview

Name, where are you from?

Telenova. Melbourne baby.

Describe your style (dress sense) in three words?

Subtle. Refined. Powerful.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to (and why)?

Queens Of The Stone Age, Splendour 2017. Absolutely shredded my tiny little face off. I remember the Amphitheatre kind of clearing out because Two Door Cinema Club were playing on another stage and thinking what a huge mistake all those people were making. QOTSA just went about their business and put on a fucking masterclass.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands/artists in history - who would it be and why?

David Bowie and Jamiroquai. Not sure how Telenova would slot in to this line up, but seeing these two acts back to back would be unbelievable. Two of the greatest frontmen of all time. (They'd obviously be opening for us btw).

Which subcultures have influenced you (and why)?

I think musically we're pretty influenced by Hip Hop. I'm always so blown away with how creative hip hop is, especially the way the music integrates samples to make something wholly unique. Other than that, probably goth.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?

Jay Kay for sure. I think I'd just want to go to a bar and rack his brains about what his life was like in the early 2000s. It would be absolutely insane. He was absolutely massive before social media kind of ruined the allure that came with being a rockstar, so he'd definitely have some stories.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite (and why)?

I haven't played it yet, but The Forum in Melbourne is my favourite venue in the world. I've seen so many great bands there, and the sound is really nice too. It'll always have a special place in my cold, decrepit heart.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music (and why)?

Pearl Charles! Just listen to this heat:

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?

Self Esteem, The Offspring

A song that defines the teenage you?

Nelly, Kelly Rowland - Dilemma

One record you would keep forever?

Portishead – Glory Box

A song lyric that has inspired you?

Take it easy for a little while
Come and stay with us
It's such an easy flight
Cute new places keep on popping up
Since the exodus, it's all getting gentrified
I put a taqueria on the roof
It was well reviewed
Four stars out of five

And that's unheard of

Arctic Monkeys – Four Out of Five

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?

Basement Jaxx – Where’s Your Head At

A song you wished you had written?

ABBA – Dancing Queen

Best song to turn up loud?

Black hot Soup – DJ Shadow ‘My Own Reality’

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?

The Mars Volta – Wax Simulacra

Best song to end an all-nighter on?

Steely Dan – Do It Again

Any new bands/artists you are listening to right now?
(pick a track for each)

Felivand, Kye, Slum Sociable
