As we settle into our new location in the Schanzenviertel area of Hamburg, we catch up with some Hamburg locals to find out what our new neighbourhood has to offer.

Romano van de Mas

What do you do?

I’m a Producer, DJ, Host, Model and (my day job) a Landscape Architect.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

1. A KUR (the name of my event) in which Robert Hood stood behind me and celebrated my set. 2. A legendary 9 hour closing set at the party of a good friend 'Thorsten Junge' called 'Kinky Sundays.' It was completely insane. 3. An 8 hour B2B closing set with 'Stranger' in the 'Kurhotel'.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite and why?

KURHOTEL, it was a tiny magic area with an incomparable atmosphere and the best and kindest team ever. I’m really thankful for this amazing time, which had a huge impact on me.

Grischa Kaufmann

What do you do?

Photographer and Tattoo Artist.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Her Damit Fes7val.

What is your favourite independent venue?

Berghain.

Lenny Bunsen

What do you do?

DJ, Producer, Label Manager. Everything that is connected to music.

If you could be on the line up with any three artists in history, who would they be?

Héctor Oaks, Len Faki & Inhalt der Nacht. All three play techno, each of them in their own way which makes them very special for me. No matter where I was, I always had a good time when they played.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite (and why)?

Pal if it's Kinky Sundays. Probably the best party you can attend in Hamburg. Especially when the attic is open. Good people, good music and Sunday is my favourite day to party. For me it's the place and the party where you can experience a part of Hamburg's subculture.

Maryam

What do you do?

I am a musician. I sing and write music, play the violin and sometimes piano.

Describe your style in three words?

Classy, grungy, feminine.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history, who would you choose?

Florence and the machine because she´s my day one idol and the first festival memory I have. And Aretha Franklin. She´s the godmother of the music i want to be doing. She´s a legend.

Alisa Tsybina

What do you do?

I am the singer in the band shi offline, a tattoo artist (Ada Romanova) and painter.

Which subcultures have influenced you and why?

Punk and alternative. In my youth I was particularly influenced by punk and alternative subcultures. Musically and thematically, I could identify much better with these subcultures. It opened up a space for me to express myself, to deal with life itself in a more playful way and still feel protected because there were others who allowed themselves to break out of the social constructs.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?

Gängeviertel - Hamburg, it's a nice place where everyone helps and supports each other. I always felt that I was in very good hands.

Lucinee

What do you do?

I am a music producer, DJ and I curate my own event series. Before that, I studied fashion and costume design and worked at the theatre.

Which subcultures have influenced you (and why)?

I am strongly influenced by rave culture and the queer community. They go hand-in-hand since the roots of raving and electronic music stem from the queer community in the first place.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite (and why)?

One of my favourites was an old hangar outside of Copenhagen at a joint event of three collectives called Endurance x Mala Junta x Mess, that focus on creating high-quality raves and safer spaces. The energy and vibe was insane (the venue itself as well) and I felt like I was a part of it all, not just a guest DJ. Another venue worth mentioning is Berghain's Säule – no explanation needed.
