Name
NAHAVAND (Miyauchi and Tokisato)

What do you do?
Miyauchi - Vocalist.
Tokisato - Trackmaker and Guitarist.

Where are you from?
Miyauchi - Hyogo.
Tokisato - Hyogo as well.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Miyauchi - Arctic Monkeys. I saw them at the Summer Sonic 2014 Osaka. It wasn’t too long after 'AM' was released when Alex Turner still had that quiff. Their fifth album 'AM' got slower BPM with the heavy riffs and the beat sounded rather programmed... we felt a resonance with it. We really felt a great deal of empathy.
Tokisato - Same for me though, I realized that I had lost my wallet during the performance and I’m afraid to say that I couldn’t think of anything else, really.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Miyauchi - Fashionable gear. The likes of Vivien Westwood and Dr. Martens and all.
Speaking of music, even though I’m currently listening to a lot of US Hip Hop, my style is influenced by British fashion, for example, the Libertines.
Tokisato - I’m also a big fan of the Libertines. I bought a Gibson Melody Maker because of Carl Barat.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Miyauchi - HELLUVA LOUNGE in Kobe. The stage has floor lights installed underneath and it’s only lifted by inches from the audience floor. I guess these features somewhat resemble venues in the UK.
Tokisato - I like the sound of The Circus. It’s got strong bass and it’s been our choice for self-organized gigs.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Tokisato - Joining the Libertines as a guitarist. The best one would be their 2nd album 'The Libertines'. I could totally play along with them spontaneously if I was to play the lead guitar riffs for the second track 'Last Post on the Bulge'.
Miyauchi - I want to watch the Oasis show in 2000 at Wembley Stadium from the stage. I would be there not to join as a guest but just to watch the view from the stage live.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Tokisato - Pete Doherty with a fireball.
Miyauchi - John Lennon with a deadbeat. Like, listening to him playing piano beside me.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Miyauchi - The Metros. They came out around 2008 and soon split up after their first album. I was listening to it non-stop.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Tokisato - 'Death On The Stairs' for me. I played this track all the time back in the sixth form. I then got properly into the Libertines.
Miyauchi - It must have also been during the sixth form but I kept playing 'Revolver' and the track 'Eleanor Rigby' was one that I played on repeat. It was still a flip phone back then and my address was the track name followed by my name.

A song that defines the teenage you?
Miyauchi - I’ve become more easy-going now though if I describe the time when I was full of myself then 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' by Oasis.
Tokisato - 'Drive My Car' by the Beatles. It opened me up to listen to foreign music.

One record you would keep forever?
Miyauchi - Okay then, it’s the Libertines.
Tokisato - Rack off matey! Well then, it’s the Libertines.
Miyauchi - Oops then, 'Revolver' by the Beatles.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Tokisato - Can’t think of anything really. What do you expect? I use meaningless letters like 'PPP' for the demo title.
Miyauchi - 'Has It Comes To This' by the streets. It’s just a song that portrays one’s despair but the scenes are very descriptive. I became very aware of it while writing lyrics ever since.

Best song to turn up loud?
Tokisato - 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' - Beatles.
Miyauchi - It’s been just the Beatles and the Libertines but I would sing 'Can’t Stand Me Now' of the Libertines without realizing.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Miyauchi - There’s a reason for this but Radiohead’s 'Kid A'. As a change from their previous darker albums, you could really see it as more of a happier danceable album.
Tokisato - I can only think of 'Lemon' by Kenshi Yonezu, haha.

New bands you are listening to now?
Miyauchi - I’m listening to Charli XCX a lot. I like her look too.
Tokisato - Cosmo Pyke is my favourite. His sound is pretty chill.

What is the concept points of your playlist?
Miyauchi - There are elements of Hip Hop and Rock within us which led to the selection. Half of the beat-based music and the other half for the bands who’ve influenced us.
Tokisato - First half, in particular, is very much like us indeed.
