What do you do?
DJ / Music Producer.

Where are you from?
Kobe / Japan.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I usually don’t go to gigs - I go to clubs, but only my own. I think of Sophie’s gig at CIRCUS (a club) in Osaka one or two years ago. I couldn’t see what was coming next at all when they played. If I can refer to the video, I have watched it many times - Matthew Herbert's 'The Audience'.

Which sub-cultures have influenced you?
UK garage influenced me a lot. Around that era, J-pop adopted 2 steps and I got into UK garage when I was in Junior High School.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
YEBISU YA PRO in Okayama. That's my favourite club. I like the atmosphere of the town on top of the venue’s great sound. This is the only club we play regularly.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
He is still alive, MJ COLE.  I also like Todd Edwards.
In the case of MJ COLE, I respect his editing sense and his own sound. I would like to work with him in the studio, or just watch him remixing my one of tracks.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Matthew Herbert. I would like to see him sampling various sounds nearby like him in an installation.

Your greatest unsung hero (or heroine) in music?
UK garage artist, Sentinels who already stopped working. They released a few singles, though I think they are still unknown. Another one, THE COOL NOTES in my playlist are getting noticed recently.

04Playlist Notes

How did you select the tracks for this playlist?
I chose songs that I normally use in my DJ set rather than historical ones.

The first track you played on repeat?
‘Kiss Of Life’ by Sade. When I was a high school student, I bought a vinyl for 100 yen and heard it before knowing the extended mix version.

A song that defines the teenage you?
‘Sincere’ by MJ COLE.

One record you would keep forever?
‘Bodily Functions’ by Matthew Herbert. I think that it is the best album.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
‘Clouds Across The Moon’ by Rah Band. Also, I like Anoni's self-pitying language selection.

Best song to turn up loud?
N/A. Because I prefer the programmed sound and club music. If it is a Japanese song, I sing ‘A Kiss In Tears’ by Southern All Stars in the bath.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
’Wonderful Christmas Time’ by Paul McCartney. Although the chord progression is strange to me - but it is pop. Als,o it is a very interesting song as it makes me want to make music.

Any new bands you are listening to now?
The solo unit called Speed Boat in my playlist are very cool. Also, I love Bristol's emerging label called Shall Not Fade.
