Saltwater Sun

Reading

Name, where are you from?
We’re Saltwater Sun from Reading.

Describe your style in three words?
Must do better.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Kate Bush at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Her first show in London since the 1970s. Everything was flawless; her performance, the production, the palpable awe of the audience.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Nothing gets people dancing like The Beach Boys. We saw Brian Wilson at Bestival, and it was one huge party.

And David Bowie, which needs no further explanation and we never got the chance to see him.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Skate culture, pop punk and the nu-metal scenes shaped our identities and our friendships with each other and still hold a massive place in our hearts.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - our favourite show.
Aside from being hilarious, he ploughed everything into following his dream, risking his own assets to make it happen and has kept complete creative control over the show with the other founding cast members/writers. It’s now one of the most successful sitcoms in history!

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Mucky Duck in Brighton during The Great Escape.
It’s a proper sweatbox - both times we’ve played the festival there, we’ve had queues around the block and people standing on chairs singing along. Such an amazing atmosphere.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Joanna Newsom. She’s one of the best songwriters of our generation, but her name is often missed off such lists, which is criminal.

Reading five-piece indie band, Saltwater Sun returned this Summer with 'Hot Mess' and 'The Wire' gaining praise from the like of Huw Stevens and John Kennedy.
