The Veda Rays are a Brooklyn-based alt. rock band formed in 2010 by Jim Stark & Jason Gates. The current line-up includes keyboardist Jonathan Rogers and bassist Greg Timmes. Built from driving drums and jagged guitars, intricately textured with pulsing synths and hovering strings, their sound is further characterized by Stark's distinctive croon. Citing influences ranging from Roxy Music and Magazine to The Chameleons and early REM, the band's arty milieu is deeply informed by 70's glam and 80's post-punk. This, along with a penchant for minor-key melodies, dream-like atmosphere and all things noir, makes for something alluring. The band has been featured on such notable sites as Popmatters, My Old Kentucky Blog, Death and Taxes, Largehearted Boy, Consequence Of Sound, Sonicscoop.com, and The Big Takeover. Comparisons by various journalists have included bands such as Deerhunter, Spacemen 3, Pulp, The Walkmen, New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, and more.
