Name, where are you from?
Fizzy Blood from Leeds.

Describe your style in three words?
Pants before socks (but not the other way round because it makes you look like a chicken).

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Tame Impala at Ally Pally, they’ve pretty much got it all haven’t they? Sick lights, sick tunes, well thought out audio-visual production. On that note have a listen to 'Yes I’m Changing' by the same band.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Iggy and the Stooges and David Bowie.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
The subculture that has probably influenced us most is the punk movement and its music. Myself (Paul, guitars) and Benji (vocals) started out playing together when we were about 12 by doing Ramones covers in his basement. Jake also shaved his head once. As a band try and keep the spirit of doing things ourselves alive as well; we make all of our own merch and record most of our music live together in a room.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
George Orwell would be up there. He had a worldview that was pretty ahead of his time, and he had a big imagination so he’d probably be an interesting fella to have a beer with.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Headrow House in Leeds is about to be our favourite venue because we’re doing a headline show there on 24th February and it’s gonna be sick. Make sure you pre-book tickets online if you wanna join the fun because they’re starting to run out.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Fighting Caravans were an amazing band from Leeds who split up before they had a chance to grow. RIP. Listen to 'In Sicily'.

Fizzy Blood are an alternative rock band from Leeds who first caught our attention when we put together our Leeds Sound feature in 2016. February 2018 sees the band set off on their first UK headline tour.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'JCB Song' by Nizlopi. There was probably something before that or a cooler answer we could’ve given, but it’s the first one our drummer Jake can genuinely remember.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'On Call' by Kings of Leon. Just a great tune that we can all agree takes us back to being an age where we used to go to local gigs all the time and get pissed on vodka someone had smuggled in under a coat.

One record you would keep forever?
'Chet Baker Sings' by Chet Baker. Timeless.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I am trying to break your heart.”

From 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart' by Wilco. A great song and a very powerful lyric. I don’t know why but it says something that seven words from a song even out of context can make me feel so sad.

A song you wished you had written?
'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' by Tears for Fears. What. A. BANGER. We like to get this on in the van on the way to shows if morale needs a little boost.

Best song to turn up loud?
'A Little Respect' by Erasure.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Nights' by Frank Ocean. We’re all massive fans of Frank which I think people might find surprising given what our music sounds like but any of his songs could have been the answer to this question.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Truth' by Kamasi Washington. Want to end the night at a party? Put this on, and everyone will be asleep within minutes, speaking from experience here.

Any new bands you are listening to right now?
Forever Cult - Another Leeds band that have been good friends of ours for a while. They’re bringing out some really cool new music at the moment, and they’re going to be supporting us on tour in February. Check em out.
