Introduce yourself
Laine Wong. I’m a fashion designer and make-up artist.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Simple yet sophisticated.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
It is a journey of an icon represented by many cultures and lived by the stories of people who wore it along the way. Mine included.

When did you first dabble in the creative field?
I was always creating and playing even from a young age. I had paper dolls of which I created dresses for. I imagined a variety of styles and mixed and matched them.

What inspires your work?
People from all walks of life. Discovering and understanding humanity. Travelling to different parts of the world helps.

What is the first song you played on repeat?
I can’t remember which song exactly. But I can recollect getting ready for school everyday with Hey Jude by the Beatles playing in the background. The Submarine album was one of my favourites at the time.

Who is your ultimate British musical icon?
Oasis one hundred percent!

What was the best gig you've been to?
Damien Rice in Singapore. I loved the fact that although it was a one-man-show, he had amazing vocals and gave me the goosebumps.

A song that defines the teenage you?
Oasis Live Forever. It was at the time when I was curious about the world. I felt invincible. There was nothing that could stop me. The world was at my fingertips.

What bands have you been listening to recently?
Chelou, The XX, Cigarettes After Sex, Beach Fossils, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys…

04Playlist Notes

'Tomorrow Never Came' by Lana del Ray feat Sean Lennon.
This song is about a crumbling romance. A collaboration with Sean Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Lyrics from the song reference Sean's famous mother and father, including the line "I wish we could go back to your country house and put on the radio and listen to our favourite song by Lennon and Yoko."

'Don’t Cry' by Guns N Roses.
To me is one of those songs that is so good that it hurts!

'I’m On Fire' by Chromatics.
This song is about wanting someone so much they feel as if they are on fire from their "burning desire". I can play this song and drift off into another space.

'Bird Set Free' by SIA
Heard this song while watching princess Diana’s documentary on Netflix.
Love the lyrics. It’s very encouraging because it’s about not being afraid to be yourself.

'The Masterplan' by Oasis.
This song is beautiful to me. Noel’s finest work. It's about not knowing what’s gonna happen in life or how it's gonna turn out but we just have to let things be, love the good times and deal with the bad.

'I’m Outta Time' by Oasis.
The song that Liam Gallagher dedicated to John Lennon
*This samples an audio excerpt of a John Lennon BBC Radio interview done two days before his death. I fell in love with this song when - I first heard Lily Allen cover version.

'Littlest Things' by Lily Allen.
Lily Allen puts it so well. I mean who hasn't felt like this at the end of a relationship?

'Sleep Apnea' by Beach Fossils.
A very beautiful sentimental song to me. Just fall in love with the rhythm.

'Like a Dream' by Chelou.
Love Chelou, a very talented musician. He combined art and music on his music video, he collaborated it with an illustrator (Polly Nor) that was what really amazed me.

'Cheap Perfume' by Ali Aiman feat 2db.
My Favourite local band collaboration.

'Stuck on the puzzle' by Alex Turner.
I discovered the soundtrack from a movie called “Submarine”
My favourite movie.

'Toy Soldiers' by Martika.
this song is like all other songs written and recorded during the 80s era...
I always loved this song even before I realized what it was about. Again, they should definitely start playing this on the radio.
