03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Serra Petale, from Perth, Australia.
Josefine Jonsson, from Norrköping, Sweden.
Agustina, from Uruguay.
Nic, from Surrey, United Kingdom.

Describe your style in three words?
S: Comfortable, casual, chic.
J: Chill, laid-back-scandi, wannabe.
A: It's mood driven.
N: Vintage, casual, denim.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
S: Most recent one was seeing Spice Girls in 2019 at Wembley Arena. I laughed, I cried, I sang my little heart out with my friends. It was so emotional. They absolutely killed it and I’d give anything to relive that moment.
They opened up with 'Spice Up Your Life' and it was out of control amazing. I’ve always loved the Latin style piano melody that drives the song.
A: So many good ones! I'll say this year Audiobooks at the Social.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
S: Abba. They were my favourite band growing up and still remain as one of my favourite bands ever. Experiencing their concert during the peak would be so amazing, and this way I could be side of stage yelling and singing to all the hits - they may not appreciate this but I can only dream. And to top it off I would ideally be invited on stage to perform one of my favourite tracks with them, Summer Night City - absolute banger.
S: The Go-Go’s. I would give anything to party with The Go-Go’s either now or when they were together in the ’80s. Their roots mostly stem from punk, and despite them finding success with the shiny new-wave movement they were all pretty notorious for going super hard on and off the stage. Their music is still so fresh and energetic, it always puts me in a good mood.
J: Santana (in 1969). Their performance from Woodstock keeps blowing my mind every time I watch it, would do anything to see that very performance live.
J: David Bowie. Always been so fascinated by Bowie and will always wish I’d seen him live. Ideally, he’d perform 'Hunky Dory' and 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' in full, back to back.
A: Ramones and T-Rex. I love both bands and I'm sure playing with them was a proper experience.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
S: Grunge and Britpop were what I grew up on because of my brother. Grunge was all about rawness and wearing last nights bed shirt to your next gig, you just be you and everything is just whatever. I love the witty charm of Britpop, dabbed with a hint of bleakness. The music from that era still sticks with me and I think the production and songwriting that came out from bands at that time are second to none.
J: I feel the subcultural movement Riot Grrrl loaded me up with so much inspiration when I discovered it and properly delved into that world. Educational politically, epic music, sassy fashion and the whole movement is just BADASS.
A: Punk really influenced me as a teenager, it changed my life and my mind and Mod help me define my style and taste in music as well.
N: The Europe DIY scene. This scene has taught me a lot about hospitality, friendship, support and creativity. The network of friends and bands has influenced my playing as well as taught me about tour planning, how to look after touring bands and the importance of looking out for each other.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
S: Princess Diana. Just to be a friend and a shoulder to lean on, I feel like she could have used that when she was going through what she was going through.
A: Anne Boleyn. I'm obsessed with history and more when it comes to the Tudor times.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
S: Moth Club in London. So many good gigs, nights and classic memories.
J: I think it will have to be our home base Moth Club in London. Always a good time at Moth, always.
A: I love Moth Club, it's a second home for us.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
S: Kat Bjelland. What this woman did musically and vocally is outstanding. She and her band put out some of the greatest grunge records which are so uncompromising. Her vocal abilities are second to none.
J: That will have to be my very close friend Linn Koch-Emmery. It’s thanks to her initiative to start a band when we were fifteen that I picked up a bass and started playing. My life would have been very different if it wasn’t for that! And her music is amazing so please check out her latest album 'Being the Girl', especially the track 'Hard to Love'.
A: I will go for Elli Medeiros, Uruguayan musician that ruled the punk scene in France with her band Stinky Toys. After her band dissolved she formed a duet Called Elli & Jacno, the music is perfect to dance! I love her, she is such an inspiration. And it’s said she is the one that came with the idea of using safety pins in clothes!

Los Bitchos will release their debut album 'Let The Festivities Begin!' on 4th February 2022. Pre-order or pre-save it via losbitchos.lnk.to/FestivitiesFa.
