Austin, Texas-based C3 Presents is once again the organizing force behind the annual Lollapalooza festival, which will host over 130 bands in Chicago’s Grant Park, 1-3 August.
Headliners for Friday, 1 August will be Eminem and Arctic Monkeys (competing for big crowds on the main stages) with Phantogram and Zedd having secured coveted slots on the smaller stages. Other “day one” highlights include the white-hot Lorde, Broken Bells, NYC post-punks Interpol, Warpaint, and Melbourne, Australia sweetheart Courtney Barnett.
Saturday’s headliners will be the recently reunited Outkast, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, Cut/Copy and Chicago dance trio Krewella. Further down the bill, standout acts include New Orleans-based blues/punk dynamo Benjamin Booker, Brooklyn’s Parquet Courts, The Temper Trap, Fitz & the Tantrums, Legendary MC Nas and Seattle’s The Head and the Heart.
Lollapalooza 2014 wraps up on Sunday, 3 August with Kings of Leon and Skrillex as competing main stage headliners (they should divide the crowd quite nicely) with Darkside and Chance the Rapper holding down the smaller stages. Earlier in the day, the discriminating “final day festivalgoer” can catch The Avett Brothers, Glenn Hansard, 80’s obsessed synth-poppers Bleachers, Chicago’s Gemini Club, southern psych-rockers White Denim and New Orleans native Trombone Shorty with his cracking band Orleans Avenue.
As of press time, single and three-day passes for Lollapalooza are sold out with only very pricey platinum tickets and travel packages available.
