Well here's some exciting news for Northern Soul fans! Legendary Nolan Porter is the subject of a brand new documentary film after he teamed up with Midlands-based rock’n’soul band Stone Foundation and independent film-maker Lee Cogswell. The debut screening of ‘Keep On Keepin On: A Short Film About Soul’ will be at Birmingham’s MAC cinema On Saturday 22nd June 2013.
The documentary, long-awaited by the band’s fans, records the collaboration between Northern Soul legend Nolan Porter and Stone Foundation and you can view the trailer below.
LA-based singer Nolan Porter made two very collectable albums in the early 1970s with legendary bands Little Feat and The Mothers of Invention, before becoming disillusioned with the music industry. However, soul fans in the UK picked up on Nolan’s brand of music via the Northern Soul scene, and his profile increased after Paul Weller’s cover of ‘If I Could Only Be Sure’.
The film shows Nolan’s return to the music business after a 30 year absence, to work with Stone Foundation. It features interviews with Nolan by Paolo Hewitt and Mark Baxter (co-authors of The A-Z of Mod), rare studio footage from Nolan’s first recordings in 40 years, and footage of their powerful live shows, as heard on Stone Foundation’s latest CD ‘Live at the 100 Club’. Nolan also appears on Stone Foundation’s forthcoming album, and they hope to tour together again in future.
