The first track you played on repeat?
Anika - I Go To Sleep
I think I was fourteen and it was a school night but I couldn't sleep. I typed in "I want to go to sleep" and I found this song. I woke up the next morning with it.
A song from your favorite album?
The Strokes - Is This It
I got this album for Christmas when I was 4. I have really nice memories of listening to it in the car. I chose the title track because whenever I hear it, it reminds me of being little again.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Higgs Boson Blues
I got the train to Bournemouth to see this gig. I was with my Dad and my little brother and none of us had seen the band before. The performance felt intimate and the way the songs were played was really moving. The chairs were pushed aside it felt like the best school assembly.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Lizzy Mercier Descloux - Hard-Boiled Babe
I really like how dysfunctional this song is but, it all fits together somehow. I feel it gets you up and dancing because there's so much going on, no one can say you were off beat because you could just be focusing on a different bit. It uses the harmonica in a fun way.
A new song you're listening to?
Tierra Whack - Hungry Hippo
My housemate showed me this song. I like listening to this artist when I'm making breakfast, because the songs are really short and catchy it just helps you get on with what you're doing, it makes menial tasks fun.
Best song to turn up loud?
The Voidz - Human Sadness
Despite it's name I think this song you can listen to in any mood and enjoy it. It's fun to turn up loud because its very atmospheric, there's loads going on in the song and the dynamics of the song are constantly changing, when its loud it sucks you in.
A song that defines the teenage you?
The Sugarcubes - Birthday
This song really reminds me of growing up. I think it's a really innocent song, especially the lyrics, it speaks a lot about just being outside and playing, this reminds me of school holidays.
An anthemic song?
PJ Harvey - We Float
I think what makes this song powerful is the transition from the verse to the chorus. It has a long build up with this piano riff on repeat and it feels quite dark, and then it suddenly opens up into a really beautiful chorus where her voice sounds perfect.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning
When you get back a bit late and the suns creeping up on you I think the lyrics just tell you, "thats enough" and then they send you to bed. It's also nice to fall asleep to, they used a celesta throughout the song which makes it feel a bit like a story before bed.
