03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Eclectic, Comfy, Classic.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Tobi Legend - Time Will Pass You By

It probably wasn’t the first but I got into Northern Soul after watching the film ‘Northern Soul’, and got a bit obsessed for a while. I could listen to this all day.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

The Clash - Clampdown - Remastered

It’s maybe a bit of a cliche choice but I can listen to this album anywhere, anytime, it’s my go to if I don’t know what I want to listen to.

A song from your most memorable gig?

The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into The Sun

Glastonbury 2015. They were the ‘surprise’ act after Dave Grohl broke his leg. I’m a big fan but had never thought I’d see them live, we waded through the mud to the pyramid stage to catch their set. They finished on this as the sun was setting.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Jamelia - Superstar

I remember the video to this song quite vividly. You can’t not feel like a superstar when dancing to it.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Lizzo - Water Me

It’s not that new but I’ve just got into Lizzo. I love how feel good her songs are, she is fierce.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Slaves - Cut And Run

It’s a good one to play in the car I think. I bought the CD because I liked the album artwork so I play it in my mum's Corsa when I’m home.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

Florence + The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)

Around this I was just starting to form my own taste in music. I bought the NME quite a bit and I just remember thinking she was so cool.

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

Kasabian - Fire

Coming from Leicester, I have a great sense of pride in Kasabian and anthems is after all what they do best.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Oasis - Wonderwall

I went to university in Manchester and inevitably Oasis would be played at the end of the night, as they turned the big light on and ushered you out and onto the takeaway.
