A Divorce Photo
Name, where are you from?
Divorce (Tiger and Felix), from Nottingham, UK.
Describe your style in three words?
T: Impulsive, alt-country and camp.
F: Broke old clothes.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
T: Dolly Parton, because she did a solo on about twelve different instruments, including a harp and a sax, and talked more than she sang. It was heavenly!
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
T: Harry Nilsson, I think he’d be an absolute nightmare but he had a cracking voice.
F: Nina Simone, it would be a weird line-up but she was the best.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
T: We have songs inspired by things like Facebook comment-section vitriol and old school friends who join pyramid schemes. Are they subcultures? When we started writing together we spent most of our time watching absurd internet sketch comedy. I think that definitely made its way in!
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
F: Otzi the Iceman (c. 3000bc) because I want to show him Wii Sports. I don’t think he made any tracks, but I think he’d have loved 'New Shoes' by Paulo Nutini.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Chameleon Arts Cafe in Nottingham, and incidentally we are playing a headline show there on April 8th 2022, so come!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
F: Judee Sill, because I think she never got the recognition she deserved as an artist in her lifetime.
Divorce will soon be heading out on a UK tour, starting at Yes, Manchester on 26th March and finishing with a hometown show at The Chameleon, Nottingham on 8th April 2022. For full details and tickets, visit linktr.ee/divorcehq.
Their debut single, 'Services', was released in January 2022 via Hand In Hive Records. Listen, purchase or stream it via orcd.co/services.
The first track you played on repeat?
F: 'Teenage Dirtbag' by Wheatus.
A song that defines the teenage you?
T: 'Pass Out' by Tinie Tempah.
One record you would keep forever?
F: 'Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares Vol.1' by The Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Vocal Choir.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
T: “They agreed to disagree
They zoomed off in a doomed Corvette
The sheriff couldn't recall feeling this way his entire life
As he drove through the principalities of unreality
On the run with somebody else's wife”
From 'Jazz on the Autobahn' by The Felice Brothers.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
F: 'Sweet Leaf of the North' by Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip.
A song you wished you had written?
T: 'I’m Going Home' by Tim Curry, from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' soundtrack.
Best song to turn up loud?
F: 'Your Best American Girl' by Mitski.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
T: 'Love to Hate You' by Erasure, although I don’t think that would be much of a surprise to those who know me. It’s a banger!
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
F: 'Still Crazy After All These Years' by Paul Simon. I like to have a good old cry at the end of any big night so this’ll get the tear ducts pumping.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'The Greatest' by SASAMI.
'IWR' by Caroline.
'Thoughtless' by Clara Mann.
'The Man Who Was A Horse' by Catmilk.
