03Interview

Introduce yourself
Edwin. I work in the Creative industry & write and record music with TOKO KILAT.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Don’t Follow Trends.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
First I saw Skinheads wearing them in KL during gigs back in the 90’s, they said it was a uniform from the “bible” (a textbook photocopied and sold at Campbell Complex, KL) They wore them proud. There’s something authoritative about the brand to command a generation.

What is the first song you played on repeat?
'Don’t Look Back In Anger'.
Because I had to start, stop, rewind the cassette tape to learn the chords. There was no Youtube then. The solo took a week to get right.

What is one record you would keep forever?
At The Drive-In - 'Relationship of Command'.
Monumental. That said, I’ll keep all my records forever.

What is a song lyric that has inspired you?
“Yeah, I am what I am.. I don't have no time for no misunderstandings again” from Drake’s Non-Stop. Scorpion on repeat.

What has been the best gig you've been to?
I’ve been to a few, RADIOHEAD & Roger Waters were recent, both epic.

Who is your ultimate British musical icon?
Johnny Marr. Age-defying performer, style icon and guitar hero.

What song do you wish you had written?
Imagine by Lennon, who wouldn’t?

Where do you go to see live music?
Around the world. If its worth it, I’ll make that trip!

04Playlist Notes

'It Aint Over Yet' by Graveyard
The overlords of stoner revival are back from the dead, hitting it head on this new album opener! Play it loud if you wanna get turnt!

'Spiked' by BILK
Bset new find, formerly known as LSD, BILK turn to UK raw power to form a ratchet, akin to early Arctic Monkeys and the lot.

'Number 10' by Interpol
Burns a hole in your brain. 2nd single from new album Marauder. Always Fire!

'Smell The Roses' By Roger Waters
Had the chance to catch the man in the flesh earlier this year during the Us vs Them tour. My closet Pink Floyd experience. This “Have a Cigar” inspired track was produced by Nigel Godrich and Waters

'Love is Mystical' by Cold War Kids
Got reintroduced to the band on their new album L.A Divine, this has been in my system ever since.

'Lannoy Point' - by RIDE
An unexpected but glorious return to form, total RIDE opener. Weather Diaries is a fine album.

'Weapon of Choice' by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Dark broody soundtrack on a boozy night out. All black everything!

'Memory Boy' by Deerhunter
Old new fav track by ambient punk hit makers animate the lounge for a slouchy evening listen. The last CD I bought.

'Flower Travelling Man' by Earthless
This track is a trip. Layers of heavy drums, fuzz and spacey guitar crescendos, haven’t heard a solo that long since 1998. Sonic Prayer is their best album to date.
