Name, where are you from?
Josh, born in London but grew up in Portsmouth.
Describe your style in three words?
Your Grandads clothes.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Ariel Pink at Heaven in 2018.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Bowie, it’s probably not even up for debate that he’s the greatest songwriter of all time. Oasis, very cliche answer but...
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Growing up it was punk through my dad, I once came home with a mohawk and my mum shaved it off. It’s interesting how it's been diluted and permeated into today's culture. I wouldn’t consider myself as a punk at all, but I take some sensibilities from it, the way we are as DIY as possible and like to create a sense of community. Not to mention our shows can be pretty chaotic.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would love to spend an hour with Dave Mancuso at one of his parties. I’m a secret disco lover and I wrote one of my big uni essays on it. He was a big figure in early disco, hosting parties in his flat known as ‘The Loft’ and playing eclectic collections of music. These parties inspired the first DJ’s and set the ball rolling for Disco.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
That's tough but it would have to be one of the smaller ones, I like the feel of a packed small room and being so close to the audience. These small venues are so important and the ones we need to make sure we all we can to save them. Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh was a memorable one for me.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I think Insecure Men don’t get the praise they deserve, their self-titled album is something I listen to daily.
The first track you played on repeat?
'A Forest' by The Cure.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying' by Belle & Sebastian.
One record you would keep forever?
'Love Is Overtaking Me' by Arthur Russell.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Fell in love with the night time
She took me by surprise
She had to turn the lights off
To look me in the eyes”
The lyrics to 'Goodnight London' by Money are incredible, just as all their song. Massively underrated.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Au Seve' by Julio Bashmore.
A song you wished you had written?
'Perfect Day' by Lou Reed.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Str8 Outta Mumbai' by Jai Paul.
Best song to bring people together?
'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Mequetrefe' by Arca.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'When The Sun Hits' by Slowdive.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
'Long Day/Free' by Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard.
'Ballad of You & I' by Hotel Lux.
'450' by Bad Boy Chiller Crew.
'Imitate' by Studio20.
