A Mellah Photo
Name, where are you from?
Mellah from Forest Hill, South East London.
Describe your style in three words?
Feely feelings pop.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Every gig I’ve ever seen where Ríoghnach Connolly sings. I am literally streaming with tears by her third word, her voice does something to me.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Necessaries and Neil Young with Crazy Horse. Chuck the Beatles in there as well... f*ck it.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
All of them I know of. I like to try and write from outside my own perspective, see things through eyes that see different to mine.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Buddha, get the low down.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Cafe pompier in Bordeaux is pretty special, just good people amazing energy. In London still probably The Windmill, just a consistently good time had there, again, it’s all about the people.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Probably Neil Young, just because he never compromised for anyone even to this day.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Thong Song' by Sisqo. (I was about 8, didn’t know what I was singing).
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Bulls On Parade' by Rage Against The Machine.
One record you would keep forever?
I’d slice in half Neil Young Crazy Horse's 'Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere' and The Velvet Underground's 'The Velvet Underground'. Taking side B of Neil Young and side A of Velvet Underground and glue them back together and take that.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Sometimes I feel so happy,
sometimes I feel so sad."
'Pale Blue Eyes' by The Velvet Underground.
A song you wished you had written?
'Shape Of You' by Ed Sheeran, buy my fam a nice house.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Watermelon In Easter Hay' by Frank Zappa.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Born To Die' by Lana Del Ray.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Foggy Notion' by The Velvet Underground.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Riders On The Storm' by The Doors.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Enjoying Big Thief from America.
