Paul Orwell

Musician — Essex

Name?
Paul Orwell.

Where are you from?
Essex.

What do you do?
Writer, Producer, Musician, also a vinyl fiend.

Describe your style in three words?
Black Leather Jacket.

How should your music be listened to?
On Vinyl played extremely LOUD.

What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
My Dog, Buddy.

What British music icons inspire your sound today?
The Beatles, The Animals, any Freakbeat & good UK stuff from 1962-1972.

Paul Orwell possesses a unique talent in his ability to create the music, attitude and ambience of the mid 1960's beat period with an assuring knowledge of his place in today's society. His latest album 'Organised Blues' is a hammond heavy, instrumental, freakbeat bonanza - available on Heavy Soul records.

What was the first song you played on repeat?
Probably not a track people would think i'd of played on repeat, but it was from one of the first albums/vinyls I ever bought. The Allman Brothers - Black Hearted Woman.

A song from your favourite album?
Very hard for me to not pick a Beatles track for each question, but I'll save it for the next. The album "Electric Ladyland" is the biggest trip EVER!!! Climaxing at the end with one of Jimi's finest tracks… Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return).

Song you wish you had written?
A song I could of easily picked for every question! The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows. Scary to think this is 50 years old!

The Song with your favourite lyrics?
The dark and forever moody... The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black. Sinister sixties at it's best.

4 songs you can’t stop listening to right now?

Lou Reed - Vicious
Just pure cool vibey, catchy, sex music.

The Syndicats - Crawdaddy Simone
Joe Meek is one of my favourite producers & this is pure compressed filth genius.

The Factory - Gone
One of the best UK psych 45's ever! Both sides fuzz heaven.

St Louis Union - East Side Story
Original mod from one of the best years in music - 1966.
