Singer/Guitarist — St Helens
A Stillia Photo
Name?
Jack Bennett
Where are you from?
St. Helens, Merseyside
What do you do?
Singer and guitarist of Stillia.
Describe your style in three words?
I've always been into Mod sort of style stuff. Nowadays I'm into wearing lots of different stuff. Got quite a bit of Paul Weller’s collection and a cupboard full of Fred Perry.
If you could make a record with anyone from history?
I'd love to write and record with Noel Gallagher. Grew up on his songs. My favourite song he’s ever written was 'Fade Away'. Still my favourite to this day.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Watching The Who at the Echo Arena. Atmospheric. When they played 'Who Are You’, goosebumps.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
That's a tough one, we've played some pretty top venues. Manchester Academy 1 supporting Rat Boy, that was an insane gig.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
DMA's are a band that I'm listening to a lot at the minute. But Arctic Monkeys and the Roses have played big parts in our songwriting.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
John Lennon all day. He's just a god to me. I used to mimic him as a kid and just want to be him. Everything about him is everything I want. He was the man.
If you could share the bill with any band in history?
I'd love to share the stage with the Stone Roses, or Arctic Monkeys. Either one would be top. Favourite tracks by them. 'Standing Here' the Stone Roses and 'Black Treacle' by the Arctic Monkeys, love that song.
What music did you listen to growing up?
I grew up listening to The Beatles, The Jam, Buddy Holly, loads of old country stuff (which I'm still mad on).
Stillia are a 4-piece indie rock n roll band from Merseyside.
They will be supporting Ocean Colour Scene as special guests on their World Tour throughout November, or you can catch Stillia headlining their own UK tour in December 2017.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
It had to be Buddy Holly ‘Oh Boy!’ Or ‘In The City’ by The Jam. They were constantly played over and over when I was younger.
One record you would keep forever?
'Fade Away' from Oasis’ The Masterplan album. All time favourite. Love it!
A song you wish you had written?
I really wished I written ‘Delete’ by DMA's. God, I love that tune so much.
A song that defines the teenage you?
I better be careful in case my mum reads this. I'm going to say 'Stay Young' by Oasis. I had that in my earphones every morning walking to school.
A song lyric that inspires you?
I love the way Ian Brown sang the line "Stop the world, I'm getting off". Just made me feel good and made me want to write. From 'What The World Is Waiting For' by The Stone Roses.
Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
I love Country. There's a track by George Strait called ‘Give It Away’. It's a mega tune.
Best song to turn up loud?
‘In The City’ by The Jam. That sounds massive loud.
Best song to bring people together?
‘Give Peace A Chance’ by John Lennon. I feel like hugging randoms when I hear that tune.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
I've heard a tune by a band called The Academic called ‘Bear Claws’. They do a mad delay thing with their video. Hard to explain but check it out if you can, really good band, I like them a lot.
