Get Ready with
Lucien Parsons

January 2024

Filmmaker and Creative Director Lucien Parsons shares his night out traditions and the tracks that soundtrack his getting ready rituals.

Where are you from?
Bristol!

What do you do?
I'm a freelance Filmmaker & Creative Director who specialises within the skateboarding and fashion industry.

Describe your style in 3 words.
Cute rad awesome.

What was the first record you played on repeat?
David Bowie's Starman had me dancing from a young age, introduced to me by my mother, I still think it's a beautiful song.

What is your 'get ready' ritual?
Sometimes I have to hype myself up for a big night out, so I quite like to listen to heavier music to get me started. Alice in Chains’ MTV Unplugged is pretty spot on. "Would?" in particular.

You have the aux in a cab, what do you play?
Everlong by Foo Fighters, continuing the emo hype.

Talk us through a typical night out in Bristol, start to finish?
Start by the docks for sundowners with the homies, look for a pub (usually The Crown) when it's dark. Head to Stokes Croft for the energy, usually ending up at some sort of 140/Jungle night.

What is your favourite independent venue in Bristol, and why?
Strange Brew. It's a really nice space in general, they host a lot of art exhibitions, skateboard video premiers and if you're ever bored of listening to the same music over and over on a night out, they've always got something weird!

Best song to end an all-nighter?
It's Too Late by The Streets. It's a bit sad but also kind of cute and sometimes I like to wallow in the comedown of a night out.
