Swim Deep

Birmingham indiepop - exclusive interview

Sunday 31st May 2015

Birmingham indie-pop outfit Swim Deep first came to our attention back in 2012, with huge tunes such as 'King City' and 'She Changes The Weather', the the live performances for which you can watch in the videos below, along with an exclusive interview.

The young band have since reemerged, moving beyond a beach-grunge, surf-rock sound, to much more electronic, psychedelic sounds - a nod to late eighties Manchester with New Order, Happy Mondays, and even The Beloved, as well drawing comparisons to smaller, emerging, acid-house-inspired contemporaries such as Real Lies and Jam City.

The band unveiled 'To My Brother' earlier this year, and have now put out the video to new track ‘One Great Song And I Could Change The World’; a blissful psychedelic pop that strides into an all embracing sea of euphoria.

Whilst the addition of touring member and multi-instrumentalist James Balmont to their ranks has proved a masterstroke bolstering both creatively and visually, the band have of course retained their distinctly Swim Deep 'feel good vibe' and characteristic upbeat pop melodies.

The band is set to release their second album later this year, following on from critically acclaimed debut album Where The Heaven Are We which was released in July 2013 and reached Number 20 in the UK charts.

Having decamped to East London for studio sessions with Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine), the band recreated their summer with singer Austin recording vocals whilst standing in a mini beach paradise within the studio, inflatable toys were optional – pics available on request...

‘Honey’ is released on Chess Club Records and will be available on 7” vinyl and digitally via all usual outlets. Swim Deep will also be heading out on tour as support to Spector throughout October and November.
